Wine, Women & Words

Book reviewed: The Road. The meeting next  month will be after the WI meeting week, seems to suit people better. Well, I was surprised at the positive  response to this book. Once we had got over the depressing subject matter most (but not all) of us found it a  very good read. It was an easy read, the style was simple, we felt the lack of punctuation and short sentences  give it a 'diary feel' which seemed appropriate for the endless journey it was describing and added to the  poignancy. However, some events described didn't ring true and the ending was considered a bit trite and  abrupt. But overall, a very respectable score of 7.7 which made it number 26 out of the 86 books in our league  table.

Ladies, Literature & Laughter

Hosted by Fiona - latest review ;

The book reviewed was  'The Sealwoman's Gift' by Sally Magnusson. The score was 8.4 out of 10. Some of the comments were: I read  the author's note and was surprised to find out that it is based on a true story. It was a really good book. I  found this book rather difficult to engage with. I loved this book! It was so interesting at the end to read that  the characters were real people.
