'A God in Ruins'. Kate Atkinson
The book we were reviewing was the sequel/companion to 'Life After Life' by Kate Atkinson which we had read at Book Club in June 2016. This book is called 'A God in Ruins'. Kate Atkinson herself said that she saw this book as a companion book to 'Life After Life' rather than a sequel .
Our overall score for the book was 8.8 out of 10 though a couple of the ladies would have scored it as 11 out of 10!
Our comments were:
'A beautifully written book that drew me in immediately.'
'The descriptions were harrowing and gripping , it just made me want to keep reading.'
'It made you think about the fragility of life.'
' The descriptions inside the Halifax bombers were superbly written and you felt the visceral fear of the airmen.'
'Amazing writing and a shocking twist at the end.'
'The short paragraph that is written after Viola sees Teddy on the landing , totally explains the incomprehensible relationship between Viola and her father. It is just slotted in almost as an afterthought.'
'I tried to read the book several times but got bored.'
'I loved the descriptions though it took me a while to get into it. Having not quite finished the book I want to carry on and I am really enjoying it'
'I really enjoyed the book and the writing and scored it 9 out of 10 but it just made me feel sad'
